Entain announces its support for '200 sports winners and 100 football clubs'

December 11, 2023

Industry behemoth Entain, which has been the target of recent criticism, has finally published its Social Impact Report, which details the company's social impact initiatives.

Over 200 competitors across many different sports categories, including Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth, and World Championships, have received financial support from the company, as highlighted in the study.

One hundred non-league football clubs have also benefited from Entain's funding initiatives via the Pitching In program.

The four pillars of player protection, platform security, creating a welcoming workplace, and making a good difference in the community form the basis of Entain's sustainability plan, which is based on a double materiality evaluation.

To quote Virginia McDowell, "I'm extremely proud of the long-term collaborations Entain has built with charities and academic institutions across the globe, supporting them to achieve our common goals and positively transform our local communities." McDowell is a non-executive director and chair of the sustainability and compliance committee at Entain.

"Our most recent sustainability strategy will help us build on the outstanding progress we've made this year and maintain our position as industry leaders in this critical area."

An activist group of investors has been questioning Entain's leadership and financial policies over the past month.

Discussions about Entain's acquisitions, share pricing, and general performance have been sparked by pressure from investor circles.

To generate sustainable growth, boost margins, grasp US market possibilities, and assure long-term shareholder value, the company has confirmed its commitment to proactively address shareholder concerns. The plan, which has the support of the Board, is unambiguous.

Nonetheless, the firm was fined £585 million, a record for the industry, for past mistakes in Turkey.
